After 6 years with the team, the former European Champion bids farewell to Soudal Quick-Step

After a six-year journey as a member of the ‘Wolfpack,’ Fabio Jakobsen is bidding farewell to the Soudal – Quick-Step team and will embark on a new chapter in 2024, competing for the DSM-Firmenich team. Before saying goodbye, Jakobsen left an emotional farewell message for his current team.

“It’s emotional, but I knew this moment would come,” Jakobsen said in a video message posted on the team’s official website. “Before joining the team, I competed for SEG Racing. Lefevere showed interest in me there, and after that, I asked for Niki Terpstra’s number. He was competing for the team at the time, so I knew how the Wolfpack worked and knew it would be a good opportunity for me.”

A grave accident in Poland

Among the highs, there were the lows. Most notably, the frightening accident during the Tour de Pologne 2020. “I remember many teammates visiting me at home, even though I could barely speak and was very tired. But, nevertheless, they took the trouble to come to the Netherlands to see me,” he recalls.

“Everyone knew it was tough, but they all did everything they could to support me. So, you also know you’re not alone. It creates a special place in my heart, and that’s why it’s a pity to leave the team, even if I have no other option. It will always be one of the most special memories I have of the team.”
