Filippo Ganna will not be present at the start of the Tour de France next year. The Italian cyclist is primarily focused on the Paris Olympics, which will take place during the French summer of 2024, and therefore is not interested in competing in La Grande Boucle.
At 27 years old, Filippo Ganna has participated in the Tour de France only once to date. In 2022, he successfully completed his debut in the competition, finishing 94th in the general classification. However, the Italian announced during the ‘Il Festival dello Sport’ in Milan that in 2024, he will focus on other competitions and will not participate in the Tour de France.
The Italian cyclist is determined to compete for victory in Milan-San Remo next year after finishing second in 2023. Then, Filippo Ganna will focus on his preparation for the Giro d’Italia, a race he has participated in three times. The Tour de France is not part of his plans, but the Paris Olympics will be his priority.
In 2023, Ganna secured victory in six races, primarily in time trials. He also achieved a 2nd place at the World Time Trial Championship, behind Belgian Remco Evenepoel. His most notable performances include finishing second in Milan-San Remo, narrowly losing to Mathieu van der Poel. Additionally, Ganna took 6th place in Paris-Roubaix.
