Joshua Tarling once again reinforced his status as an absolute talent. The 19-year-old British cyclist placed Remco Evenepoel in the second position in the Chrono des Nations time trial, covering an out-and-back course. Tarling was thirteen seconds faster than the world champion.
The Chrono des Nations is a 45.4 km time trial with the start and finish in Les Herbiers, featuring a strong start list. The battle between European champion Joshua Tarling and world champion Remco Evenepoel was the most anticipated part of the event, which also included time trial specialists like Stefan Bissegger, Mikkel Bjerg, and Remi Cavagna. The race was mostly flat.
Advantage within the first 10 km
After approximately ten kilometers, Tarling already had a significant advantage, putting 9 seconds between himself and Evenepoel. Bissegger and Cavagna were trailing by almost twenty seconds.
At the second intermediate point, after 34.5 km, the lead was already at 17 seconds, and victory seemed to be secured. In the end, Evenepoel managed to reduce the gap by four seconds, but it wasn’t enough to overturn the advantage of the British rider. Joshua Tarling, the cyclist from INEOS Grenadiers who also finished 3rd in the World Time Trial Championship in Glasgow, appears to be the next big specialist in the discipline.
