Cyclist and BORA-Hansgrohe’s National Champion Announces Retirement

Shane Archbold will compete in one more race, and then his cycling career will come to an end. The 34-year-old New Zealander will hang up his bike after the Tour of Guangxi, which takes place from October 12th to 17th in China.

Archbold began his cycling career with continental teams in his early years but switched to the ProContinental team Bora-Argon 18 at the end of 2014. With this team, Archbold progressed to the WorldTour, but his time at the highest level of cycling appeared to have ended after a year. Archbold took a step back and briefly raced for Aqua Blue Sport and EvoPro Racing at the continental level.

However, in 2019, he had another chance with BORA-hansgrohe. The following year, he moved to Deceuninck-Quick-Step, only to return to BORA-hansgrohe in 2022. Now, at the age of 34, Archbold has decided to retire from professional cycling.

Two professional victories are included in his palmares. Archbold won a stage of the Czech Cycling Tour in 2019 and, a year later, became the road champion of New Zealand.
