Arnaud Démare achieved his long-awaited first victory for the Arkéa-Samsic team. The French sprinter triumphed for the first time with his new team on French soil during the Tour de Vendée. Paul Penhoët secured the second position, followed by Sandy Dujardin in third. In the final race of his professional career, Peter Sagan finished in 9th place.
The successful career of the 33-year-old Slovakian came to an end today. At the Tour de Vendée, the region of his current team TotalEnergies, Sagan bid farewell to professional cycling. It’s the end of an impressive career in which Sagan managed to win three consecutive world titles and claimed the green jersey at the Tour de France a remarkable seven times.
Sagan left his mark at the finish of the race. The Slovakian worked in his team’s train for his teammate Sandy Dujardin, but he ended up not being a match for his compatriot Démare. Arkéa-Samsic’s sprinter saw another Frenchman, Paul Penhoët (Groupama FDJ), finish in 2nd place.
