The 38-year-old British cyclist was indeed planning to retire after this season, but according to the British website GCN, it appears that the British sprinter will be in the professional peloton in 2024.
In the weeks following his crash at the Tour de France, there was already much speculation about Mark Cavendish’s future. The Italian portal Tuttobiciweb indicated in July that Cavendish was close to a contract extension with his current team, Astana Qazaqstan Team.
A few months later, the Italian newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport also reported the same information, and now the British network GCN is also certain: there is a good chance that Cavendish will postpone his retirement for another year. If that’s the case, the British cyclist will have one last opportunity to write another chapter in the Tour de France in 2024.
Cavendish will return in October
The return to competition already has a date: Cavendish is currently preparing to return at the Tour of Turkey (October 8 to 15). Cavendish has competed in Turkey several times and won no less than eleven stages in 2014, 2015, and 2021.
