Rune Herregodts will not be in the 17th stage of the Vuelta a España. The Belgian sprinter from Intermarché-Circus-Wanty did not finish the 16th stage this Tuesday, which ended in Bejes.
Herregodts, at 25 years old, chose to abandon during the sixteenth stage. The Belgian cyclist, known for his time trial abilities, was participating in his first Grand Tour.
In the first fifteen stages of the Vuelta, Herregodts failed to make an impression and finished in 139th place in the general classification, with a gap of nearly three hours behind the leader, Sepp Kuss.
This is the third withdrawal for Intermarché-Circus-Wanty, which previously saw Kobe Goossens withdraw (after stage 4) and Rein Taaramäe withdraw (stage 14), now reduced to five riders. Herregodts is the 26th rider to withdraw from the Vuelta a España.
