Soudal-Quickstep Admits Remco Evenepoel Needs to Adjust Schedule for Tour de France 2024

Remco Evenepoel will certainly participate in the Tour de France 2024, where he will have to compete against Jonas Vingegaard and Tadej Pogacar. Remco’s current performance in the Vuelta a España raises questions about the schedule the Belgian should follow for the top competition on the professional calendar.

Soudal-Quickstep’s Performance Manager, Klaas Lodewyck, expresses this concern in the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws. “Remco Evenepoel will need to make significant cuts to his schedule. He’ll have to be a bit more selective if he wants to continue competing at this high level.”

From this perspective, it’s interesting to speculate on what Evenepoel’s spring might look like. He usually participates in races like Milan-San Remo and the Tour of Flanders, races that Jonas Vingegaard does not consider.

The Danish cyclist often skips these classic races. Mathieu Heijboer, the Performance Manager of the Jumbo-Visma team, highlighted in a conversation with the Dutch website Wieler Revue that this decision undoubtedly contributed to Vingegaard’s excellent performance in the Tour de France.

However, of course, Evenepoel also needs to want this. “Remco is like Pogacar in this aspect. He always gives 100 percent to everything. So, Remco himself will have to be convinced,” concludes Klaas Lodewyck.
