Sam Oomen will be joining Lidl-Trek next year, as announced by the American team this morning. “It feels like Lidl-Trek is the right team at the right time,” Oomen stated in the press release.
In the press release, the 28-year-old Dutch cyclist explains his decision, starting with his relationship with the team’s coach, Luca Guercilena. “I’ve known him for a long time. When I turned professional, I already knew him. I chose Giant Alpecin at the time, but I always had a good impression of his team.”
“In the past few years at Sunweb and Jumbo, I’ve learned a lot about myself and what it takes to bring out the best in me, both mentally and physically. I’ve also gained extensive knowledge about the sport, which makes me believe I can make a valuable contribution to my new team.”
The cyclist, who has signed a 3-year contract with Lidl-Trek, concludes: “If I can assist the team’s top riders in winning major races, I will be very happy. Of course, I also aim for good results personally, but my primary goal is to bring out the best in myself once again. The best years are yet to come.”
