Despite all the pressure and disappointment that Remco Evenepoel experienced during the second week of the Vuelta, he showed his appreciation on Sunday morning by thanking Romain Bardet for the support provided during the challenging 14th stage, which took place on Saturday and was won by Evenepoel.
“I like Romain, and I greatly appreciate him,” Evenepoel told the Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws afterward. “He’s an honest guy and, as far as I’m concerned, one of the biggest stars in the current peloton. He was the ideal ‘partner in crime.’ We worked well together.”
This morning, Evenepoel surprised his fellow rider with a visit to the dsm-firmenich team bus. He wanted to thank Bardet for the pleasant company and presented him with a Belgian champion’s jersey and the trophy he received as the stage winner.
