The Tour of Britain’s organizers saved the best for the final stage of the competition, featuring no less than four first-category climbs. The route included Rhigos (5.2 km at 5%), Bryn Du (1.7 km at 7.8%), and a double ascent of the challenging Caerphilly Mountain (1.3 km at 10.1%). The summit of the last climb was just five kilometers from the finish.
After an attack in a breakaway group that included Wout Van Aert, Carlos Rodriguez managed to open up a 16-second gap that couldn’t be bridged by the chasing group.
In the breakaway, alongside Van Aert, were Magnus Sheffield, Tobias Halland Johannessen, and Damien Howson. If they managed to build a significant advantage, they could potentially have taken the title from Wout Van Aert, as the Belgian was leading by just 3 seconds. However, Wout arrived with the group and, with an extra detail, won the sprint of the small peloton.
Brazilian rider Nícolas Sessler from Global 6 Cycling team finished the stage in 21st position, 1 minute and 23 seconds behind Rodriguez. With this result, the Brazilian concluded the competition in 22nd place in the General Classification.
