Kaden Groves loses his lead-out man in the Vuelta a España

Alpecin-Deceuninck has been the leading team in the sprints of the Vuelta a España. The team is at the Vuelta to contend for the points classification jersey, which allowed Kaden Groves to win the first two sprints and wear the green jersey. However, the main lead-out man for their leader, Robbe Ghys, has abandoned the race this morning due to pain in the gluteal region, which makes it difficult for him to sit on the saddle.

“My body has recovered well from the crash last week, but the saddle pain doesn’t allow me to continue,” said the 26-year-old Ghys. “I’m going home today and will have surgery on Monday.”

“I was part of a top team, was able to perform at the highest level, and contribute to our leader Kaden Groves’ victories. I thank Alpecin-Deceuninck for this unforgettable experience and wish my teammates good luck for the rest of this Vuelta.”
