Vuelta a España 2023: Preview of the 14th stage, the big mountains are not over yet

For the second consecutive day, a stage with two climbs of the Special category awaits. Once again, the route takes place mainly in France. The fatigue from the first day in the Pyrenees will still be present, and undoubtedly, we can expect some great duels.

After the start in Sauveterre-de-Béarn, the first ascent comes almost 60 kilometers later. But it’s worth the wait for the Col de Hourcère (11.1 km at 8.7%). The same goes for the Puerto de Larrau (14.9 km at 8%), which will take the riders back into Spanish territory.

In these climbs, there will be some flatter sections and short descents, making the average gradient deceptive. It’s mainly the irregularity of the ascent that will prevent the riders from settling into a rhythm.

In the final climb, the Puerto de Belagua, we have 9.5 kilometers at 6.3%, but even here, that doesn’t give a full picture of the climb. In the first 6.5 kilometers, the gradient consistently hovers around 8%, ensuring thrilling moments right until the end of the stage.

14th Stage (September 9th) Sauveterre-de-Béarn – Larra-Belagua (156.2 km)
