The Jumbo-Visma team showed little interest in accelerating on the final climb to La Laguna Negra. Jonas Vingegaard acknowledged this after the stage with several media outlets. “And to be honest, I thought the others would try today,” said the Tour winner.
Vingegaard didn’t mind that the opponents also didn’t want to increase the pace. “That’s their choice and their tactics. We have no influence on that,” he said. “We didn’t want to do it, so it was good for us. We’re in great shape with this situation. Every day we go through this path is good for us.”
“I think the pace on the climb was strong, but it wasn’t too difficult, and no one wanted to take risks. We’ll have to wait until Friday, then we’ll see how we’re doing,” the Danish rider looks forward to the challenging mountain stage to Col du Tourmalet.
After eleven stages, Vingegaard is seventh in the general classification, 2 minutes and 22 seconds behind the leader Sepp Kuss. “Primož and Sepp have already won a stage, and I hope I can add one to that too,” he laughs. “But as long as we have the red jersey, everything will be good for us.”
