After nine days, Remco Evenepoel achieved his best position in the Vuelta a España 2023 classification when considering the traditional favorites. However, Remco Evenepoel is aware that Sepp Kuss is an extremely dangerous leader. “Especially if he performs well in the time trial on Tuesday,” the Belgian reveals in Monday’s press conference.
When asked about how he sees the possible three leaders (including Sepp Kuss), he is definitive. “My suspicion is that they still aim for the overall victory with Roglic and Vingegaard. It’s certainly not easy to race against three strong climbers. Formulating different plans to beat them, especially when they work well together, as they did in the first week, is really challenging.
When asked if he would like to keep João Almeida, Juan Ayuso, and Enric Mas close in the classification so they can compete together against Jumbo-Visma in a kind of alliance, he states:”
“They can be very important for me in the next two weeks. It’s always easier to work together than to solve all the problems alone. Jumbo-Visma now has three leaders, so we have to find a way to work against them.
We’ll see after the time trial and certainly after stages 13 and 14 how the general classification stands. I don’t think it’s a lie when I say it’s good that we can work together in some way.”
