The 9th stage of the Vuelta a España 2023 was another day filled with drama and discussion topics. Speaking afterward, Primoz Roglic of Jumbo-Visma recounted the end of the first week.
“We started very strong and pushed to the maximum. After that, I thought we would ease up a bit because everyone had already put in a big effort. However, we kept going very strong,” said the Slovenian leader in his post-stage interview with Eurosport, referring to a chaotic start to the stage that saw Jumbo-Visma attacking with average speeds consistently exceeding 50 km/h.
Devido a preocupações com a lama na subida final do dia, os tempos foram medidos a 2,05 km da linha de chegada. Roglic fez um sprint no final, para deixar seus adversários em dificuldade.
“A subida final foi muito difícil. Nós, ciclistas, sempre passamos por momentos difíceis, em todos os lugares, mas mesmo assim me senti bem”, concluiu Roglic antes de refletir sobre a primeira semana como um todo. “Como faço para relembrar esta semana? Eu sobrevivi a isso. Ainda estou aqui e gostei.”
