Jeffrey Hoogland will attempt to break the world kilometer time trial record tonight at 9 PM (CET). He will make his attempt at the Aguascalientes velodrome in Mexico. ‘We are very confident that we will succeed.’
The current record belongs to François Pervis. The French cyclist achieved this feat by covering one kilometer from a standing start in 56.303 seconds in 2013. However, Pervis broke the record in Aguascalientes, a city located at an altitude of 1,880 meters, resulting in less air resistance.
Hoogland, who has already won the world title on four occasions during his career, has a personal best of 57.813 seconds. This makes him more than a second and a half slower than François Pervis. It’s worth mentioning that the Dutch cyclist was riding on a sea-level track located in Grenchen, Switzerland.

We are very convinced that we will achieve it,” Hoogland said on the In Het Wiel podcast. “Otherwise, we wouldn’t have made all the effort to organize this attempt. The idea is that the altitude will help me in such a way that I can significantly reduce my personal record, resulting in a world record.”
In a conversation with De Volkskrant, Hoogland also answered the question of why he wants the record so much. “I want my name to be at the top of the kilometer record list for several years. It’s a legacy, something you can look back on
