Tadej Pogacar has won the title of Slovenian Cyclist of the Year for the fourth consecutive time. The UAE Team Emirates athlete was honored during a gala ceremony in Ljubljana. Additionally, Primož Roglič and Matej Mohorič were recognized with awards for their notable achievements. Eugenia Bujak was awarded the title of Best Slovenian Cyclist of the Year.
“This year was a Tour with ups and downs,” said Pogacar to Siol.net during the gala. “The last week was quite tough for me, but the second place motivates me again. I hope next year is a bit calmer.” He also spoke about his victory in the Tour of Flanders: “Flanders is one of the most beautiful one-day races. The fact that I managed to win there is incredible. Cycling is very popular in Belgium.”
Awards for Roglic and Mohoric
There were also awards for Roglic and Mohoric. Roglic was honored, among other things, for his victory in the Giro d’Italia. The Jumbo-Visma rider, who will race for BORA-hansgrohe next year, also won the Tirreno-Adriatico, Volta a Catalunya, Vuelta a Burgos, and Giro dell’Emilia. In the Vuelta a España, he finished third, behind teammates Sepp Kuss and Jonas Vingegaard. ‘I appreciate these moments; they are not unlimited,’ said Roglic. ‘I had a lot of fun this season.’
Mohoric also received an award for his special achievements. This was mainly related to his victory in the Gravel World Cup and the stage win at the Tour de France.
