Mathieu van der Poel trained with Tadej Pogacar this Wednesday. Considered by many to be the world’s leading cyclists, they gathered in the picturesque coastal region of Calpe and Denia, as evidenced by social media posts from Pogacar’s UAE teammate Jan Christen.
Image reveals friendship between the two champions
Christen’s image illustrates the closeness between Slovenian champion Pogacar and world champion Van der Poel during training. This partnership became more frequent last season, with both sharing podiums at the World Road Championships, Tour of Flanders and E3 Saxo Classic.
In addition to Christen, Pavel Sivakov was also part of the training group. The Russian cyclist, now naturalized French, recorded on Strava the completion of a challenging 156-kilometer training session on the Spanish east coast, with an elevation gain of close to 2,000 meters, lasting more than four and a half hours.
Van der Poel does not share activities
It is unclear whether Van der Poel followed the entire route with UAE Team Emirates, as the world champion has not shared his activities on Strava for some time.
