Strade Bianche, one of Italy’s most iconic cycling races, which will take place on March 2, will feature a notably more challenging 2024 version. RCS Sports, the event organizer, announced this Tuesday, January 30, that the route would be significantly expanded, to surpass the 200 km mark for the first time in history. In addition, four new stretches of dirt were added to the race route.
Siena, the Beginning and the End
The start and finish will take place in Siena, as always, with the finish line located in the iconic Piazza del Campo. However, several important changes were made to the route. While the last six editions of the race have remained within the 184 kilometer range, the total distance of the 2024 edition will be 215 kilometers.
The New Sections
The first nine dirt sections of the race remain unchanged from the previous year’s edition. After the consecutive Monte Sante Marie and Monteaperti sections, the longest and shortest respectively, there are a series of interesting changes.
In particular, the Colle Pinzuto and Le Tolfe sections, often crucial in determining the outcome of the race, were duplicated. Additionally, the Strada del Castagno and Montechiara sections were introduced in the final phase.
After these additions, cyclists will follow the established route to Colle Pinzuto and Le Tolfe before finishing in Siena. In total, Strade Bianche 2024 will have fifteen dirt sections, totaling 71.5 kilometers of unpaved paths.
