Keeping up with Remco Evenepoel is a mission that many cyclists struggle to achieve. Keep pace with Remco Evenepoel with his permission? That’s a totally different story. Just ask the famous “wheelsucker” Artem Sjtsjerbyna.
Last year the Belgian champion warned him not to follow behind, (watch the video below), exactly one year later, the two got together for a coffee and a workout.
Memorable memory
Approximately a year ago, during a training session, Remco Evenepoel fends off an overly excited amateur cyclist who sticks to his wheel. He ordered a firm “stop.” The man in question is Artem Sjtsjerbyna, a well-known and famous “wheel sucker” who in Spain is always right behind the professionals.
Together again
Coincidence or not, the paths of Evenepoel and his former persecutor crossed again this week in Calpe (Spain). But this time, no “stop”. On the contrary, the two bonded on and off the bike.
“The plan was to do a two and a half hour ride, but then I met Remco Evenepoel and everything changed,” said Sjtsjerbyna, who named her Strava route “officially dropped by Remco”.
In the end, the two went for a coffee together, paid for by the Belgian champion. The celebration of the meeting was marked in the ride recorded by Sjtsjerbyna on Strava.
