The current World Champions, Mathieu van der Poel (Road) and Remco Evenepoel (Time Trial), appeared in joint training in Spain on Wednesday. The leaders of the Alpecin-Deceuninck and Soudal Quick-Step teams left Calpe for a training session that lasted over four hours.
Van der Poel rode with his rainbow jersey as the current road world champion, while Evenepoel, the time trial world champion, wore his Belgian road champion jersey. They were accompanied by teammates from Van der Poel and former Australian cyclist Freddy Ovett.
Strava documented the training
Evenepoel completed a 123 km training session in just over four hours, as shown on Strava. The cyclists tackled an elevation gain of 2,000 meters. Van der Poel used Strava for years, but he has now stopped sharing his training and data on the training app.
Van der Poel is in Spain to prepare for the cyclocross season. The Cyclocross World Champion will compete in the discipline for the first time on December 22 at the Zilvermeercross in Mol.
