Primoz Roglic raced for the last time with Jumbo-Visma and ended up on the podium at Il Lombardia. It was a roller-coaster race where, like everyone else, he couldn’t keep up with Tadej Pogacar but put in a strong performance to finish on the podium at the last monument of the season.
“We’ve written great stories together, and I have great memories of them,” Roglic said at the end of the day. Today was his last race with the “bees” (a nickname for Jumbo-Visma cyclists) before his transfer to BORA-Hansgrohe in 2024.
After a very busy season, he looks forward to winter and some relaxation. “I’m glad it’s over. There were a lot of things happening around me, but I still gave it my all on the bike. I can’t regret that. Am I on vacation now? I hope so!”
Today, he engaged in a tactical battle with Pogacar on the Passo di Ganda, with Pogacar eventually riding solo. Roglic moved to the main chasing group, but when Pogacar attacked on the descent, there was no collaboration in the group to catch him. Therefore, it became a fight for the remaining podium positions. He ended up finishing in third place on the day.
“I’m more than happy. It wasn’t very exciting, just very tough. I would have liked to finish better, but there was no other way,” he admits. “I didn’t have the legs, that was clear. But I tried, right to the end. And that without legs, actually.”
