Oscar Onley fails to beat Richie Porte on iconic Tour Down Under climb

Before the men could conquer the iconic Willunga Hill in the fifth stage of the Tour Down Under, it was the turn of ex-professionals and cycling enthusiasts to tackle the climb in a mass start this Saturday, reported British channel GCN.

Richie Porte keeps KOM

Richie Porte, two-time Tour Down Under champion and six-time winner at Hillunga Hill, showed this Saturday that he certainly hasn’t forgotten. He managed to cycle the famous climb in a time of 6 minutes and 47 seconds. That’s just 13 seconds slower than his KOM time on the mountain when he was still part of Trek-Segafredo.

However the Australian was mainly looking forward to watching the World Tour perform at Willunga Hill later in the day. And Oscar Onley proved to be the strongest on the final climb, but was just a second short of Porte’s record. The record will therefore remain in the Australian’s hands for a while.
