In the 2024 edition of Milan-San Remo, the start will not be in Milan. Similar to what happened in 2023, the competition will start in a different city, now the start will be in Pavia, south of Milan. The final, however, will maintain the tradition and will be held in San Remo.
Start again outside Milan
After many editions starting in Milan, in 2023, the competition began in Abbiategrasso, west of Milan. Now, in 2024, it will be the turn of Pavia, a city located 36 km south of the fashion city, to host the start of the competition. The previous year, cyclists passed through Pavia after almost 30 km of the race, adding just a few kilometers to the original route.
Iconic points remain in the program
The competition will have a total distance of 288 km, representing just under 6 km of reduction when compared to the 2023 edition. However, it will not fail to pass through traditional points on the route.
After leaving Pavia, the peloton will head to the Passo del Turchino, beginning the series of competition challenges, which includes the climbs of Tre Capi, Cipressa and Poggio – where, the previous year, Dutchman Mathieu van der Poel managed stand out and win the race with a solo finish on Via Roma.
