Mathieu van der Poel was a hit on Saturday in Herentals as he showed up in his Lamborghini, which could attract a lot of attention from the Belgian public. In a video from the luxury car brand, the Dutchman now explains what he likes so much about the car.
In a video from the Italian brand, Mathieu Van der Poel, known as ‘The Flying Dutchman,’ is presented. “Cycling is actually my whole life; as a child, I was already riding a bike. I just loved what I did, and I still do. I achieved something as a cyclist: I came from cyclocross, where I won everything there was to win. After transitioning to the road, I won some Monuments and became a world champion, and that’s what I’m most proud of.”
“Speed is adrenaline for me,” says Van der Poel, who has the plate MVDP-1 on his own Lamborghini. “Of course, we don’t reach the speeds on the bike that I achieve in the car, but it also feels different. It also goes very fast in descents and sprints. This adrenaline also helps me perform well.”
“For me, Lamborghini is, in one word, passion. Of course, it’s Italian; they do everything with passion,” said the Dutchman. “You can also see it in the car and the engine. They always do special things, and I really like that,” concludes the Dutch cyclist.
