Robert Gesink won’t be present at the Giro dell’Emilia classic next Saturday. The Dutch cyclist, who won the Italian race in 2009 and 2010, isn’t fully fit, and as a result, he won’t be participating in his favorite race.
Gesink impressed everyone earlier this month as a super domestique for team leaders Sepp Kuss, Jonas Vingegaard, and Primoz Roglic in the Vuelta a España, but the 37-year-old climber later finished the Vuelta a España in a weakened state. “Besides some of the most beautiful memories of my professional career, I also brought along an annoying cough,” Gesink stated via Instagram.
However, the experienced cyclist still hopes to be present at another Italian classic, Il Lombardia, on Saturday, October 7th, but next Saturday’s Giro dell’Emilia comes too early. “I’ll miss one of the most beautiful races of the season,” Gesink lamented.
