On Saturday, October 7, the top professional cycling peloton will face the final monument of the season. Il Lombardia, also known as the “Race of the Falling Leaves,” is the last major race of the season. The race will start at 10:35 AM in Como (local time) and is expected to finish between 4:40 PM and 5:25 PM in Bergamo.
The most highly anticipated showdown of the year is confirmed. Remco Evenepoel, in what could be his last race wearing the Soudal Quick-Step jersey, will be present. Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates), despite revealing fatigue, has also ensured his participation. And perhaps the most awaited appearance, Primoz Roglic, after confirming his move to Bora-Hansgrohe in 2024, will compete for the last time wearing the Jumbo-Visma jersey.
With over 4600 meters of accumulated climbing over a long 239 km, it’s a tough race with a completely different route this year, reversing roles as Como takes on the race start, and the beautiful city of Bergamo hosts the finish. The route begins and passes through Madonna del Ghisallo early on, but it won’t play a significant role this year, not climbing its traditional side.
