O Swiss cyclist Fabian Cancellara, at the age of 35, added another golden chapter to his career, securing the Olympic gold in the time trial event in Rio de Janeiro, repeating the memorable feat from the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
Navigating the winding 54.6-kilometer challenging route, Cancellara clocked a time of 1h12min15s, skillfully overcoming the rain that marked the competition. Completing the podium, Dutch cyclist Tom Dumolin (1h13min2s) claimed the silver, while the renowned Tour de France champion, British cyclist Chris Froome, secured the bronze with a time of 1h13min17s.
The competition had moments of tension, with Australia’s Rohan Dennis showing exceptional performance early on. In a tight contest with Cancellara (Switzerland) and Tom Dumoulin (Netherlands) in the first two splits, Dennis faced setbacks when the handlebar of his bike broke, resulting in a time loss for equipment replacement.
