Egan Bernal has an unusual birthday party and publishes the race calendar, with a big question mark

Egan Bernal, released his competition program for the first months of the year. The Colombian from INEOS Grenadiers turned 27 last Saturday and had an unusual birthday party, as it was at his favorite place, on the side of the road where he trains, between Bogotá and La Calera. There were dozens of people (perhaps hundreds) present at the celebration, where they were able to pay homage to the birthday boy.

Home in Colombia

As previously announced, Bernal will have his first competition of 2024 at home. The winner of the 2019 Tour will first appear in the Colombian Championship (road) and will then also participate in the Tour Colombia (February 6-11). This promises to be a special race for Bernal, as the fourth stage of this race will end in his hometown, Zipaquirá.

After the start of the season in Colombia, Bernal will fly to Europe for a series of competitions. “I must participate in The Gran Camiño, the Strade Bianche, the Volta a Catalunya, the Itzulia Basque Country and the Tour de Romandie”, said the Colombian to Mundo Ciclístico Magazine. “But I will focus on the Tour Colombia first. I want to do a really good job there.”

Giro d’Italia or Tour de France?

It is not yet fully known what his program will look like for the rest of the year. Bernal still doesn’t know if he will compete in the Giro d’Italia again this year or if he will participate in the Tour de France again. The decision on this will only be made later, the Colombian said on The Geraint Thomas Cycling Club podcast.
