Dutch cyclist will attempt to break the oldest world record in track cycling in October

At the Aguascalientes Velodrome in Mexico, where many records have been broken, Jeffrey Hoogland, the current world champion, will attempt to break the world record for the kilometer time trial on Tuesday, October 31, the oldest record in track cycling. The current record of 56.303 seconds has been held by François Pervis of France for ten years.

Preparation began after the Glasgow World Championships. Hoogland faces a tough challenge but is not afraid of failure. “As a top athlete, you are always trying to improve yourself. I want to push my limits and be where no one has been before. This gives me a great boost. I am very grateful to all the partners who have given me this opportunity and made it possible.”

Hoogland, 30 years old, immediately began preparing for his record attempt after the track cycling world championships in Glasgow. The attempt in Mexico will take place at high altitude, so the Royal Dutch Cycling Union (KNWU) is working on developing a faster suit for these conditions. The record attempt will be broadcast live.
