Breaking the UCI Hour Record by over 1km

Vittoria Bussi, 36 years old, broke the UCI Hour Record set by Ellen van Dijk on Friday night. The Italian cyclist covered an impressive distance of 50.267 km, surpassing the magical 50 km limit. The previous record, set by Van Dijk in May 2022, was 49.254 km.

In fact, this is not the first time that Bussi has become the hour record holder. The Italian had previously set the all-time best mark in 2018 when she covered a total of 48.007 km on that occasion.

“I’m thrilled to have broken the UCI Hour Record, timed by Tissot, for the second time in my career, covering a distance of 50.267 kilometers in the same velodrome where I broke it previously in 2018,” she said afterward.

Normally, Bussi would have made her record attempt last Wednesday, but the low temperatures in Aguascalientes, Mexico, disrupted the work. The Italian cyclist decided at the last minute to postpone the attempt to Friday.

“I owe this to all those who have supported me over the years, believing in me and my project. This achievement is the result of excellent teamwork, and I want to thank everyone who contributed to make it happen.”
