In 2009, during a Cyclocross competition in Gavere, Belgium, Belgian cyclist Klaas Vantornout suffered a curious incident: suddenly, his tire simply fell off the frame of his bike.
In the images, it is possible to see the exact moment of the accident. Vantornout looks back, implying that he noticed the unusual missing of an important part of his bike. For the Belgian cyclist, the only option was to continue running with the bike on his shoulder.
Cyclist still finished in 5th place
Despite the incident, Vantornout managed to finish the race in fifth place in Gavere. He crossed the finish line just over two minutes behind winner Niels Albert. Sven Nys finished second, Zdenek Stybar third.
