Primoz Roglic, the main captain of Bora Hansgrohe, greeted all the gathered media in Mallorca alongside sports director Rolf Aldag to reveal the team’s prospects for the 2024 season and, most importantly, the major goal, the Tour de France.
In an interview with the Slovenian channel RTV Slo, Roglic shared his initial experiences with the German team. “Completely different colors, new teammates, and things around me. There are new challenges ahead; after so many years with Jumbo Visma, this is a welcome change for me,” began the Giro d’Italia champion.
“I believe I can win the Tour de France. We shouldn’t be afraid of the final outcome. We should do our best. If we do everything as we should, we can be happy,” Roglic is confident, admitting that the former yellow jersey winner and now ex-teammate, Jonas Vingegaard, doesn’t really have many weaknesses in three-week races.”
Cherry on Top
“The Tour de France is the cherry on top for me. I don’t diminish my other victories; it’s just to complement all the other successes. It’s the cherry on top. It’s not an obsession,” emphasized the Slovenian, explaining what a possible victory in the Tour de France would mean to him.
Vuelta a España
The team’s sports director, Rolf Aldag, revealed that they also aim to contend for victory in the Vuelta a España, simultaneously looking at Roglic, who nodded as a sign of confirmation that a return to the Vuelta a España will be the goal for the second part of the season.
Primoz Roglic will be the sole leader in the Tour de France, without a plan B.
“The strategy is just one captain,” Aldag was clear about the tactics of the German team for the 2024 Tour. “If Vlasov is fifth, we could use him tactically, but we can’t reveal everything publicly,” replied the sports director, and later emphasized: “Just one goal, just one leader. No sprinter, no secondary objectives. That’s what we stand for.”
Joking to end the interview
“I’m just a newcomer to the team, so I have to say the best. I’ll start complaining after the Tour,” joked Primoz Roglic as he concluded the interview and was asked about how he has found himself in the new team. Only the third in his professional career.
