Recalling the notable achievements of Murilo Antonio Fischer, a Brazilian professional cyclist born in Brusque on June 16, 1979, it is inevitable to highlight his contribution to the global cycling scene, especially in completing three Tours de France and four Giro d’Italia.
Fischer’s saga began in 1996, as part of a mountain bike team. Between 1997 and 2001, he represented Brazilian teams, accumulating significant victories such as winning the Torneio de Verão de Ciclismo twice (1999 and 2001) and triumphing in the Prova Ciclística 9 de Julho in 2000. The years 2002 and 2003 saw him competing in Europe for the Italian amateur team IMA – Brugnotto.
Before his time with Garmin, Fischer built his professional career in Italian teams, starting with Domina Vacanze in 2004 and moving on to Naturino-Sapore di Mare, a UCI Pro Continental team, in the 2005 and 2006 seasons. His highlights with Naturino-Sapore di Mare included winning the UCI Europe Tour 2004-2005 and securing the 10th position in the CQ Ranking (unofficial ranking) in 2005. In 2007, Fischer moved up to the ProTour by joining Liquigas.
The Brazilian cyclist made history as the only rider to complete the Tour de France three times and the Giro d’Italia four times. Additionally, he became the second Brazilian to win a stage of the UCI World Tour (Tour de Pologne in 2007), following in the footsteps of Luciano Pagliarini.
In January 2010, Fischer joined Garmin-Transitions, playing a crucial role as part of the lead-out train for Tyler Farrar. At the end of the season, the team merged with Cervélo Test Team, and Fischer continued in this competitive setting.
Alongside notable victories, the cyclist achieved a 5th place in the Road Cycling World Championship in 2005, a remarkable 3rd place in stage 11 of the Tour de France in 2007, and a 4th place in the 2008 Vattenfall Cyclassics.
In 2012, Fischer represented Brazil in the London Olympic Games, finishing in 32nd place in the road race. For the year 2013, after three years with Garmin, Murilo signed a two-year contract with FDJ-Big Mat, solidifying his presence in the international cycling scene.
