Sales of land along the Oude Kwaremont, where the VIP area for spectators of the Tour de Flanders is located, reached significant values during the public session for the sale of the plots. “It’s 100,000 euros per hectare,” says one seller. “This is beyond any expectation.”
The Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad revealed that brokers Ghys, De Brauwere, and De Grave sold a farm and three agricultural plots. Two of the plots are located in the flat area along the Oude Kwaremont. Every year, a massive VIP village is constructed for the Tour of Flanders. Each year, the land serves as a public village for spectators.
Negotiations caused prices to skyrocket.
One of the plots for sale had 3.15 hectares with an initial price of 170,000 euros. In a round of negotiations, the price jumped to 275,000 euros, and shortly after, the final price reached 345,000 euros. The other agricultural plot is 1.03 hectares and went from a fixed price of 54,000 euros to 106,000 euros.
“This price exceeds expectations,” says co-seller Dirk De Keyser. “We didn’t expect this. The bid on the farm is 586,000 euros. I personally think that’s a bit low. We’ll have to think about it again if we want to give up at this price. I don’t sell alone, so I’ll discuss it with the others. The location is quite unique. Soon we will be invited by the notary, and we’ll see what we decide then.”
