Cyclist who made history at Movistar will become a sports director at the team shortly after announcing retirement

Last week, José Joaquín Rojas announced his retirement as a cyclist, but the Spanish rider won’t have to worry about a void in his career. The 38-year-old former cyclist will take on the role of team leader for Movistar in the support car next year.

Rojas had expressed uncertainty about his future in the sport earlier this month, stating, “I’m not sure what I’ll do. I’ll reflect on it this week and then make a decision,” in an interview with El Farolillo Rojo in early October. Now, the former cyclist has made his decision: he will remain involved with Movistar in 2024, but as a sports director.
