A major crash at the UCI Track Champions League stage in Mallorca today (October 21). Even before the start of the event, half of the peloton in the elimination race went down. The race was postponed due to some repairs on the track caused by the crash.
The crash began at the lower part of the track. Dutch cyclists Matthijs Büchli and Roy Eefting Bloem seemed to escape but went down along with most of the peloton. Many of the victims suffered abrasions, but none appeared to have sustained more extensive injuries. Only seven cyclists were positioned at the front of the peloton and managed to escape unharmed.
As some adjustments needed to be made, the competition resumed after a break of about fifteen minutes with the Keirin semifinal. It is not clear when the race, interrupted by the crash, will be resumed.
