Giulio Ciccone is out of Il Lombardia next Saturday (07.10). The Italian is still suffering from the fall at the Tre Valli Varesine and, as a result, has to miss the last monument of the 2023 season. His team, Lidl-Trek, revealed this on X, formerly Twitter.
“His injuries prevent him from participating,” reports Lidl-Trek. “Despite physiotherapy and osteopathic treatments, Giulio still experiences discomfort and strong pains in the hip, chest, and lower back. A short test conducted yesterday on the indoor trainer showed that he cannot pedal with the necessary intensity. In the coming days, he will undergo an X-ray examination to better assess his injury.”
Ciccone showed good form last Saturday at the Giro dell’Emilia. The 28-year-old Italian climber finished eighth in this semi-classic. Ciccone has participated in Il Lombardia several times in the past, with his best result being 5th place in 2020 in the “Race of the Falling Leaves.”
