Shimano issues a major crankset recall; if you own one of these models, stop using it immediately

Shimano, the world’s largest supplier of bicycle components, is issuing a major recall related to a specific group of cranksets due to reported complaints and their acknowledgment of “potential risks of falling and injuries.”

Hollowtech II Road Cranksets

This applies to Shimano ULTEGRA FC-6800, DURA-ACE FC-9000, ULTEGRA FC-R8000, DURA-ACE FC-R9100, and FC-R9100-P 11-speed Bonded HOLLOWTECH II Road cranksets in Europe, which were manufactured between June 1, 2012, and June 30, 2019.

Free Replacement

These cranksets may be defective, with a risk of interconnected parts coming loose. More information can be found on Shimano’s website. If the inspection reveals that the crankset is not in good condition, they will replace it free of charge. The company warns that continuing to use it may pose a risk of falls and injuries.
