The fight for the signing of Primoz Roglic reportedly involves only two teams

Where will Primoz Roglic go in 2024? It’s one of the big questions in the cycling world today, and the latest updates regarding the future of the Slovenian reveal that only 2 teams are in the race.

Before the Giro dell’Emilia on Saturday, the three-time Vuelta a España champion ended weeks of speculation to confirm his departure from Jumbo-Visma. Immediately, a new wave of rumors about the Slovenian’s destination circulated around the teams most interested and financially capable of attracting him.

BORA-Hansgrohe and INEOS Grenadiers are the options

Now, according to the latest information from the British channel GCN, two teams lead the race for Roglic’s signature: BORA-hansgrohe and INEOS Grenadiers. These are two teams with a track record of success in Grand Tours, where Roglic would likely fulfill his desire to return to the role of undisputed Grand Tour leader and also have a shot at success in the Tour de France.

In the past week, several WorldTour teams have reportedly talked to Roglič’s agent about signing the 33-year-old cyclist. However, one by one, the list of potential teams has dwindled, as Movistar Team, Lidl-Trek, Bahrain Victorious, and Jayco-AlUla all denied offering Roglič a contract after initial discussions, according to GCN.

INEOS is also said to have had conversations with Remco Evenepoel.

INEOS would likely be able to offer Roglič a higher contract, but given their long-standing interest in Remco Evenepoel and rumors that the Belgian will leave Soudal Quick-Step if the merger with Jumbo-Visma goes through, would it be feasible for Sir Jim Ratcliffe to spend a lot of money on both Roglič and Evenepoel?

However, BORA-hansgrohe has won a Grand Tour more recently than INEOS through Jai Hindley at the 2022 Giro d’Italia. With riders like Aleksandr Vlasov, Lennard Kamna, and the Belgian prodigy Cian Uijtdebroeks, there are plenty of climbing talents to join Roglič in the mountains if he chooses them.
