Jayco AlUla loses its main sprinter on the AlUla Tour

Dutch cyclist Dylan Groenewegen of Jayco AlUla has been forced to withdraw from the AlUla Tour due to health issues. According to the medical team, Groenewegen, who had been facing stomach and intestinal problems, will not participate in the last two stages of the competition.

Health problems

The Jayco AlUla team reported that Groenewegen had been suffering from health problems for two days. Difficulties began to arise in the second stage, after the cyclist finished second, behind his compatriot Casper van Uden, in the first stage in Saudi Arabia. Despite the difficulties, Groenewegen managed to complete the second and third stages, but lost a lot of time in both.

Medical team decision

Now, the medical team has decided that the Amsterdam sprinter must withdraw from the AlUla Tour. The decision is a heavy blow for the Australian team, as the competition is of great importance to them, as the AlUla region is one of their major sponsors.

Groenewegen, who started his season with a victory in Spain at the end of January, now has to focus on his recovery. In a post on Twitter, GreenEDGE Cycling, one of the teams associated with Jayco AlUla, wished Groenewegen a speedy recovery.
